Southfield Centrepolis was started by two organizations who are passionately invested in cultivating business ideas and shaping the face of the business world—the City of Southfield and Lawrence Technological University. Additionally, we work in tandem with our "sister SmartZone", Automation Alley, to accelerate tech innovations and grow the economy in Oakland County.
Strategically located in the heart of Southeast Michigan, The City of Southfield is the premier business address in Michigan. With over 27 million square feet of office space and over 7 million square feet of retail and industrial space, Southfield is home to more than 10,000 businesses, including more than 100 Fortune 500 companies.
Why do so many companies choose Southfield? Because Southfield harmoniously balances an industrial energy with a domestic feel, while offering business advantages other cities simply don’t. Southfield is at the leading edge of technology, with 98% of the city accessible to high-speed fiber optics, broadband and satellite services. The city’s extensive infrastructure, modern appeal and central location places Southfield at the crossroads of the booming business districts driving modern Metro Detroit.
The City of Southfield truly is “The Center of It All.”
Lawrence Technological University (LTU) was born 80 years ago in the middle of an innovation explosion that would change the world. None other than Henry and Edsel Ford helped launch the revolutionary experiment that would become LTU, providing guidance and space in their sprawling former Model T assembly plant for the fledgling school.
The foundation of LTU is all about “Theory and Practice”—taking abstract ideas into the real world to solve tomorrow’s problems. Since early beginnings, LTU students and alumni have gone on to design and engineer the tools, buildings and products that help define their generations.
If you’re a thinker, a visionary, a builder…if you’re curious…LTU is one of nation’s best schools for engineering, architecture, science and applied technology.
